The Onkaparinga Vision
As a member of the local community, I know first hand that we need more than just a person in an office. We need someone who is connected, engaged, and interested in the community - and this is what I hope to bring to Onkaparinga Council.
Youth Engagement and Local Club Development In light of recent events in the local community such as the rock throwing on the expressway, many people feel concerned about the behavior of the youth in the area. I understand that this is a real issue in our area, and strongly feel that the solution lies in affordable and interesting alternatives for youth entertainment.
For example, the skate park in Seaford has shown great success in keeping young adults and children off the street by providing a free and easily accessible alternative. I firmly believe that initiatives like this would benefit the community greatly and help form a more cohesive community. Further to this, I feel that supporting local clubs and organisations is paramount in this initiative. I have begun speaking with clubs in the area and many feel that encouraging youth involvement would benefit the community greatly. Giving people something to work for, a purpose, and a hobby, is fantastic to develop growing minds and create a society of young leaders and strong community members. If you or your club would like to meet with me prior to the election to discuss your specific needs and visions, then click the local meet-up link below or visit my contact page to get in touch. |
Animal Welfare and Environmental SupportI am an animal lover at heart, and this is reflected in my views for the local area. I currently work as a dog trainer in Aldinga, and domestic animal welfare is at the forefront of my mind, as is the preservation of open space and native habitat for our native flora and fauna.
Much controversy has been sparked around the sale of land in Port Noarlunga South and Seaford Meadows for development, due to the mob of kangaroos living on the land. This kind of issue is very important to me, and I feel strongly about preventing this type of thing in the future. Not only are those kangaroos (and goat!) part of our local community in a way, they are also a symbol of what can happen when we over-develop and take away natural habitats. Human impact on local natural spaces is something I know this community feels strongly about, and this is why it is so fundamental to my vision for Onkaparinga. When making decisions about local space, it is vital that we consult the community and consider what is best not only for us, but for the environment.
